Spotlighting people making a difference in Montrose

Scott Harbers, Precinct 32 Democratic Chair Scott Harbers is well known in the progressive community in Houston and throughout America. Since the 1960s he has done outstanding service working for equal rights for all, revitalizing the Union Movement and pumping energy into the local Democratic Party.

You won't see Scott's photo in the Chronicle- he's no glory hound. Instead, whether it's working on resolutions for Harris County Democratic Party, or filling precinct vacancies for Senate District 13, Scott takes the important behind-the-scenes jobs and excels at them.

Scott has been involved in the birth of many important groups. He was a founding officer of Montrose Area Democrats and also of the Houston Chapter of Stonewall Democrats. He has been a delegate to the Democratic National Convention, and is an original Friend of Bill Clinton.

Savvy politicos regularly seek out the advice of this Ph. D. Elected officials and activists know that when Scott speaks, it's wise to listen. He brings common sense and years of practical experience to meetings. He is invariably the best-informed person at political gatherings, which helps explain why he is always surrounded by people listening to his comments and analyses.

All too often, our precinct chairs are home watching TV when they should be out blockwalking and registering voters. The voters in Scott's precinct know him personally because of the shoe leather he wears out each year reaching and motivating Democrats. No one puts more effort into his precinct or his community than Scott does.

For his years of tireless service, Montrose Area Democrats salutes Scott Harbers, a Montrosian Making a Difference!
